Safety & Health Waiver

Purpose

Our overall purpose is to create a culture of safety, for all to feel safe and respected on our work sites.  Whether a volunteer, competent person, future homeowner, or board member, all should have the opportunity to serve in love.  We serve to give a "hand-up" and share our gifts and talents where there is need.  Our goal is to provide healthy, safe, and enjoyable work sites.

 

General Provisions

  • MRHFH follows all OSHA Building and Safety rules.
  • All workers shall sign in and read the Waiver & Safety sheet.
  • No workers or visitors under the age of 16 shall be allowed on site while construction is taking place.
  • If it can't be done safely don't do it.
  • A competent person shall be on site for any work to be done and have overall site supervision.  The competent person will do a hazard assessment each day and communicate to all workers any hazards.  He/she will also recommend any PPE needed for the day's work.
  • A pre-plan meeting shall be held at the beginning of each work day.
  • Habitat sites are drug & alcohol free.  Foul language will not be allowed.  No tolerance.
  • Any accident is to be reported to the competent person immediately.
  • Be aware of any flammable liquids (or grasses) in the area.  Extinguishers are in the trailer.
  • First Aid kits are available in the trailer.  Report and treat any injuries immediately.
  • The emergency number for Davison & Hanson counties is 911
  • This sheet is for individual review & awareness.  Detailed safety policies are in the large binder.
  • All workers will be given notice when lead based paint or asbestos is present and use proper protective gear (PPE)

Procedures

  • PPE shall be used by all workers on Habitat sites as recommended or needed.
  • Always be aware of others on the site.  Your safety and theirs is our top priority.
  • No loose, baggy, or torn clothing will be allowed, at the discretion of the competent person.
  • Work areas shall be kept clean and hazard free.
  • If unfamiliar with a tool, ask for assistance before attempting to use.
  • Fall protection PPE is required for work over 6' above the ground.
  • Scaffolds shall be inspected by the competent person before being put into use.
  • Hard hats and safety glasses are recommended.
  • Know your capacity!  Do not over lift, ask for help.
  • Always watch for trip or fall hazards.
  • Trenches or ditches shall be sloped to proper grade angles and marked or fenced for visibility.
  • Use proper ladders for the job.  If possible always have a second person on site while using ladders.
  • Watch overhead clearances while using ladders.
  • Be aware of Silica dust when drilling concrete or other hard materials.  Use PPE.
  • Watch for electrical hazards, open wiring, worn extension cords, open panels, etc.

The parties agree that the electronic signature(s) appearing on this agreement are the same as handwritten signatures for the purposes of validity, enforceability, and admissibility.

Health Questions

Our main goal is the safety of all our volunteers and staff.  Please be aware of your health before you come to our sites.  If you have any concerns or unusual feelings about your health, PLEASE STAY HOME.  We will welcome you back when you feel healthy; we want and need your help.

Have you tested positive for Covid-19, or been in contact with someone who has, in the past two weeks?


Have you had any changes in your health over the last few days?


Do you currently have, or have you had, a temperature in the past two weeks?


Any unusual cough, chest congestion, or wheezing?


Any unusual fatigue?


Procedures

  • Please try to keep distance between workers
  • Please limit the sharing of tools.  Bring your own if you have them.
  • Wear gloves when possible
  • We will have masks available if you'd like one or you are welcome to bring your own.
